"You've got to see the dream through the windows and the trees of your living room."

This blog is over a year old! I originally started it as a way to force me to improve. Looking at those early scribbles I think it's fair to say that there's been a marked changed for the better. Hopefully I'll continue to grow in the coming year.

I have started my studies, which have been nice and gentle so far (plenty to do mind), but I suspect I will be getting very busy, very fast. You can still expect drawings, I hope, but my descriptions are likely to be shortened, if not completely omitted.

As ever, my Tumblr updates more frequently as well. I'll frequently have very rapid, nonsensical, scribbles going up on there.

This is the second time I have tried to draw Amy Pond. I couldn't get the face right, again, but I liked everything else about this. It's nice and clean.

Ryan Beckwith! One of very few characters John Allison has chosen to carry over to Bad Machinery from both Bobbins and Scary Go Round. I'm not going to say that Ryan is like me, but I will say that there are parallels in our respective growth. Weird, bizarre, almost simultaneous, parallels.

He's one of my favourite characters ever.

I think sometimes you just want to sit in a tree.

P.S. I know that this is nothing at all to do with drawing, or art, but you need to watch this, it's incredible.

P.P.S. It's my birthday tomorrow. I'm old.

I've got sunshine, on a cloudy day.

I've had these pictures sitting around for about a week, but life kept getting in the way of me sitting down and actually putting them in a new post.

It was my brother Ben's birthday* last week, so I drew him this:

It's good to see that I'm improving at this scribbling lark, considering that last year I drew him a picture based on this (I've lost the final version):

The last pictures on here are based on photos I am afraid. Just stuff to try and keep me fresh. The first one was based on this photo and, I think, was a bit of a success:

The second was from Calivintage, and I didn't half have problems with it. Looking at it now I know some minor alterations I'd make, but I think I'll just move on. The first colour looked like this and was such a mess that I decided on a very stripped back recolour.

My summer job finished today, so hopefully you can expect some more pictures soon.

"The slow dance of the infinite stars"

I know, I know, two posts within a week. Alarming.

Anyway let's roll on with this. To begin, a commission I did for someone to give to their brother for his 16th birthday (16, right? Am I right Mike?). It's going to be printed A3 size, so that will be pretty great to see.

I was also asked to draw an astronaut for a primary school display, and a "rafonaut" for a book review/community website that my friend helps with. (You can find it here). Obviously I took advantage of this by adapting the same image. I am not even the slightest bit ashamed.

Astronaut:

"Rafonaut":

This is going to be on a t-shirt, so, you know, that's pretty cool.

Also, whilst doing the pencils for this I couldn't resist turning him into one of those shadow skull people things from the library episode of Doctor Who. Revel in my geekiest moment:

Oh, and finally for today, here's a very quick, scribbly drawing of a lady. I do like scribbling, I have to say.

Most, if not all, of these have already been on my tumblr in the last day or so. I really want to make this blog a bit different, but I'm not wholly sure how to go about it at the moment. I'll have a think about it I suppose.

Also, no, the title has no relevance to the content of this post. Nevermind eh?

I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.

To begin, it is my brother Kieran's birthday today. Hopefully he'll have a terrifically acemazing day, but the poor chap's at school so who knows?

I haven't really drawn anything otherwise, as I've been dealing with this university thing. I do however have this to offer you, which is essentially a straight copy of this photograph.

Hopefully I'll be picking up the pace now though, at least for a while.

Page Five.

As with the others, you can click on the image to make it bigger.

I made a font. I'm happy with it for now, but maybe not in the long run. I also drew some things rather too small when pencilling, and as such inking was not at all fun. But, eh, there you go.

Also, here's a stupid five-minute drawing I did the other night, for a friend's birthday. It's intentionally ridiculous:

They say it's your birthday.

Sometimes I do little pictures for friends' birthdays. This, for example, is for Amanda whose birthday it is tomorrow:

She quite likes Optimus Prime.  Here's another I did for her a couple of years ago:

This is a picture of The Beatles I did, in a vague attempt to roughly show their evolution, for good chum Mike. I forgot to scan it at the time:

A couple of years ago I made a kind of Comic Book cover for him, with a Magician-type hero character version of Mike on the front. I don't have it and I never photographed it/scanned it. However! It nearly looked like this:

Before I had a sudden rush of common sense. The final drawing was roughly based on this:

On the subject of rough planning sketches, here's one I did for a picture for my brother's birthday. He'd quite like to play for Barcelona. The final had ticker tape and all sorts of excitement.

I think this next one was for Penny's birthday. Was it for Penny's birthday? Not that fond of it in
retrospect. Penny! Feel free to demand something new for a holiday-in-which-gifts-are-given.

Finally, here's a Christmas Card I did a few years ago. Can't precisely remember when, but it was whilst I was at university:

Edit: I have been told off because I forgot this, of Rebecca. I'm disappointed with it for much the same reason I am of Penny's. There are others I've likely forgotten too, I'll leave you to imagine them:
